What caught my eye as I was reading this sketch was the theoretical framework that is being used. I am intrigued about the role that Marxism plays in modern day Cairo.

The aim proposed beyond the monograph has to do with global markets, and how Egypt navigates the pulls originating in the global south and in the global north.
How does Cairo funtion on a daily basis?
The ethnography is about the revival of Religion in China in the aftermath of the opening up of 1978
The text is an ethnography that is premised on in depth interviews and participant observations
The cover is a picture of church being constructed in China. I think it literally translates the concept and title of the book
The way the sketches unpack the different christianities practiced, embodied and politicized in post opening China
The sketches propose that this ethnography would look at Christian churches in non-christian countries or less open countries. I think the proposal is constructive and that very interesting findings could emerge from the application of such a proposal
I would situate it a larger conversation with other religions and other political projects in post-opening China.
The book starts with an introductory chapter which explains the puzzle and the basic theoretical arguments. It also questions the bias in "Western" anthropological practices. Next it gives a section providing background information about the space: Wenzhou. Then each body chapter focuses on a group of actors, including for example christian bosses, females, and migrant workers. The conclusion reiterates the major arguments. The structure of the book, I think, is well presented.
