Trapped in the Toxic lens of Hurricane María
On September 20, 2017 Hurricane Maria struck the island of Puerto Rico. The consequences were disastrous; no water, no electricity and no communication within the island or with the outside world. Although more than a year has passed, people continue to live under precarious conditions. The hurricane triggered a massive relief response, from governments, NGOs and individuals. However, not all of these responses were conducted equitably.
Toxic Environments: Structural affects and Community Responses
These preliminary images represent photographs I will make for the final submission. These 'placeholders' are panoramas I have made while participating in "Toxic Tours" around the Houston/Galveston region since 2010. Toxic Tours are offered by TEJAS (Texas Environmental Justice Advocacy Services), a group in the region dedicated to educating the public about environmental concerns, affecting environmental policy and regulations, and developing community actions to create greater awareness.
