I took the first picture during a field visit to Filotambor, one of the Confirmed Hazardous Areas in the village of Santa Helena. Santa Helena was one of the sites of the Pilot Project of Humanitarian Demining. This image evokes the twofold clearance process of humanitarian demining: the removal of mines as well as vegetation. One can see the contrast between the polygon that has been inspected and cleared, and the polygons that are still contaminated and occupied. Demining clears the forest, quite literally.
