Temporal Borders of Amnesty Archive

Description

Purpose of the ArchiveThis archive project engages in discourse on temporal politics of immigration policies and systems (i.e. the temporal politics of the U.S. amnesty) and social realities—lived experiences—of migrants as they engage with these temporal borders. It pushes against neoliberal logics embedded within immigration systems that value certain migrants for their skills/social position over others, the biopolitics of immigration policymaking and borders, and the legal violence of state migration management of irregular migrant populations. It encourages audiences to engage critically with how states use temporality to manage marginalized racial/ethnic migrant populations and the impact such policymaking has on the socioeconomic, educational, and wellness outcomes of such migrants. Community Contributions The archive allows immigrants and community partners such as the staff of local non-profit immigration organizations to create collections to support their needs and contribute to existing collections. This will most likely occur once I have finished organizing the archive and adding my own collections via my fieldwork. One concrete example of a potential collaboration is an advocacy space within the archive that allows community members to share through annotations, artifacts (oral histories, application materials, photos, artwork, etc.), or digital essays the temporal issues affecting immigrant communities and allow other members/organizations to organize around how to challenge or resolve such issues. Contributions to the archive will be redacted to ensure anonymity for contributors who request it, but the confidentiality and security of any contributed materials cannot be guaranteed. It is the discretion of each contributor to decide which materials to share. Materials which you do not have ownership over (i.e. copyright or IRB approval) to share, must receive the appropriate permissions first.
