<p>In this article, Shapiro argues that late-industrial material ecologies result in a process where people learn to track small imperceptible changes to their bodies and atmosphere. He calls this process as the chemical sublime; it is experienced phenomenologically as a bodily experience of vulnerability due to engagements with toxicity, and provokes ethical actions and reflection.</p>
